Take Five with Sam Yuhas

| 07 Feb 2013 | 01:04

This week we Take Five with Sam Yuhas, a sophomore at West Milford High School. Sam loves playing hoops and has a great role model in his big brother. Go to our Web site, westmilfordmessenger.com to read our bonus five with Sam.

1) How did you get involved with basketball?

I first got involved with basketball by playing for Our Lady of Queen of Peace Church. It was a small CYO league that is responsible for many cherished memories.

2) Who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspiration is my older brother Zane. He has been a great role model for me, by teaching me right from wrong. He has been a big part of who I am today.

3) Who is your favorite teacher of all time and why?

My favorite teacher of all time is Mrs. Errichello. She was my fifth grade teacher and every day she was always smiling. She kept class light and fun, yet we still learned a lot.

4) What is your favorite movie, book or character and why?

My favorite movie is Remember the Titans. I’ve seen it a hundred times and it still never gets old. It’s a movie about the war of race on a football team and the ending gets me every time.

5) Share something no one knows about you.

Something no one knows about me is that I have a desire to start a band, but the only problem is that I currently do not play an instrument.

There’s always air guitar, Sam! Do you know someone who should be featured here at Take Five? Let us know at njoffice@strausnews.com. We want to feature all of the great young people in West Milford.

Bonus Five
6) What would most people be surprised to know about basketball?

People would be surprised to know that basketball is all about your team. You have to all get along and play for one another. Once that happens the team can be successful.

7) Name three things you would bring with you if you were on a deserted island.

Three things I would bring to a deserted island are a fishing pole, a trumpet and tackle box. This way I can fish to eat and keep myself busy.

8) Share a favorite moment with your team.

One of my favorite moments with the basketball team was a recent win against Wood Ridge. They are a very high scoring team, but we won 89 to 82 in a great game.

9) What does being a Highlander mean to you?

This is a tough question. School spirit is something we need more of. I think it is easily possible for us to have more school spirit if we put the effort forth. I’m not saying our school spirit is bad, but I believe it needs to be better.

10) What do you do with your time when you are not playing basketball?

When I’m not playing basketball, I spend most of my time longboarding with my friends.
