This week we Take Five with Sydney Llewellyn, a spectacular Highlander gymnast. Sydney's accomplishments on the mat are inspirational to her younger teammates. Be sure to go to our Web site, westmilfordmessenger.com, to read our bonus five with Sydney.
1. How did you get involved with gymnastics?
I got involved with this sport when I was about 5 years old. I always watched it on TV and I just was amazed how someone could move their body and flip themselves around, and ever since that I wanted to do it.
2. What would most people be surprised to know about gymnastics?
Most people would be surprised to know that its not as easy as it looks.
3. Who is your favorite teacher of all time? Why?
My favorite teacher of all time would be my junior year history teacher, Mr. LaCroix. I say LaCroix because he loves what he does and he is a great teach. He is always there to help you achieve more and he never gives up on you.
4. Share a favorite moment with your team.
My favorite moment I had with the team would be during a meet we were informed that there was a fire in the school and that we had to be evacuated, so the whole gym cleared out and stood in the rain for an hour.
5. What is your favorite movie, book or character? Why?
My favorite movie is Happy Feet because no matter how many times I watch it, it always makes me smile and laugh.
Happy feet are good things to have for a gymnast. And, no, we really don't think it's as easy as it looks! Good luck to you and congratulations on such a wonderful high school career. You're an inspiration to those coming up.
