HEWITT — Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church will host a special service, The Blessing of Animals, on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m., on the church grounds at 1911 Union Valley Road, Hewitt. Father Michael Rodak, pastor, assisted by Father Jan Wodziak, parochial vicar, will begin this service with the celebration of Mass at noon, followed by a ceremony to honor and bless area pets. A family picnic will follow.
The bond between a person and their pet is like no other. The experience of a furry friend overjoyed at an owner’s return home or the solace a senior citizen feels with a purring companion at their side are everyday examples of love. “The love we give to our pets and receive from them helps us remember that animals are also God’s creatures and that we share a common relationship with our Creator,” said Rodak.
This event has become an annual parish and community celebration, conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.
“Saint Francis so loved animals that we remember him as a friend and protector of them,” added Wodziak.
Every member of the community is invited to bring their pets to be blessed. To ensure all these companions get along peaceably, pet owners are asked to have their animal on a leash or in a secure pen for the safety of other animals.
All are invited. Contact the parish office for more information at 973-728-8162.
