Hundreds of residents came out Monday to honor fallen veterans on Memorial Day with a ceremony and parade.
The day started with the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on Union Valley Road.
Music from the West Milford High School Highlanders Band began the ceremony, followed by speeches from the leaders of several of the township’s veterans’ groups.
A parade took place after the ceremony from Union Valley Road to the American Legion on Lincoln Avenue where attendees enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers.
Residents lined the streets along the parade route, with children picking up candy thrown by the marchers.
Marching groups included the various fire companies, first aid squads, township elected officials, the Lions, Elks, scouts, and the local 4-H.
The Highlanders Marching Band provided the music during the approximately two-mile walk to the American Legion.
