Scouting America’s (Boy Scouts of America) Troop 159, through a partnership with Goya Foods and the #GoyaGives program, recently donated 8,000 pounds of food to local food pantries.

Scouts spent six hours July 25 at the Goya headquarters in Jersey City, packing and transporting nonperishable items, including black beans, red beans, rice, coconut water, juice drinks, cornmeal and adobo spices.

Breaking down the 10 pallets of food items, the Scouts then packed several hundred bags of food for families.

After packing as many bags as they could, the Scouts filled a box truck with the bags and the remaining pallets and brought them to West Milford.

At the troop’s home base of Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hewitt, representatives of the food pantries at that church, the West Milford Presbyterian Church, St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and Holy Faith Lutheran Church were waiting with vehicles.

Scouts unloaded the truck, then helped pack the pantries’ vehicles with about 2,000 pounds of food each.
