WEST MILFORD - Upper Greenwood Lake Elementary School worked very hard this year to make sure every student's family feels welcomed and empowered to support their child's success, district officials say.
And its, and the PTA's coordinated efforts, have resulted in the school's being recognized as a National PTA School of Excellence, Principal Dr. Gregory Matlosz announced recently.
The national program “supports and celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools that work to improve the educational experience and school environment for every child,” according to the announcement.
It also helps schools engage families in school decision-making, and helps schools build inclusive policies on education, health, safety, and the arts.
The PTA is a "key partner for continuous school improvement," the school district said.
The honor covers the school years of 2017-2019.
The school joins an elite group of schools as one of the 144 PTAs recognized nationwide, and only one other in the state to be honored by the National PTA.
The school district thanked members of the committee "who made this all possible": Laura Quirk, Deana Wardlaw, Matlosz, Erin Dibari and Heather Commoreto.
It also thanked teachers who helped on College Day: Tina Iraggi, Charlene Pappas and Sarah Schenk.”
Matlosz said the school "is honored and proud to have one of the best PTAs in the country."
"Our students, staff, and community are thankful because we have parents who dedicate their time to help UGL make it the best school it can be,” he said.
