A tradition continues. The Apshawa Fire Department helped make July 4th a memorable day for the kids at High Crest Lake. Every year for more than 30 years on Independence Day, this community hosts a celebration, starting with a parade which is led by the Apshawa Fire Department. It begins at the Apshawa Preserve parking lot and ends at High Crest Lake beach. The kids decorate their bikes, some families have floats, and the neighbors line the parade route to cheer them all on. At the finish, all partake of refreshments. The fire fighters then let the kids explore their fire trucks. This is a wonderful, beloved tradition for the residents and the fire company. The Apshawa Fire Department has always used the lake for its drills and residents consider them part of the community.
