WEST MILFORD — Township residents, dignitaries and veterans gathered on Monday, Memorial Day, to honor those who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms. A solemn ceremony at the veteran's memorial in front of town hall had representatives of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War speak to the crowd, reminding them of the dedication of the soldiers who have kept Americans free.
After the ceremony, the day took on a more celebratory air, with scouts, township volunteers, police officers, musicians, elected officials and other community groups lined up for the annual Memorial Day parade, processing from town hall, down Marshall Hill Road to Lincoln Avenue, until they reached the American Legion Post.
The unofficial start of summer was a mix of solemnity and celebration in West Milford.
As always, West Milford paused and remembered.
