Participants in the PRIDE program here in town celebrated World Down Syndrome Day recently by baking cookies decorated with the number 21 in honor of all their friends with the syndrome. Down syndrome occurs when an individual has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. The PRIDE program, which is run through the township's Community Services and Recreation Department is a modified daytime life skills and recreational program for adults with developmental disabilities. Participants learn independent living skills, leisure and social skills, and survival reading and math skills needed function within the community are some of the activities offered.
