DWI
On January 6, 2019, West Milford Police responded to an accident in the area of 410 Macopin Road. Upon Officer Jonathan Bregman’s arrival, he was informed that a driver had struck a rock wall and fled the scene in his vehicle. The vehicle information was supplied to police along with a license plate number. Another motorist called police and was following behind the vehicle that struck the rock wall. The suspect vehicle was reported to be driving with its hazards on and sustained heavy front end damage along with a flat tire. The driver was eventually stopped and identified as 51 year old Mark Vandersluys of West Milford. The driver exhibited signs of intoxication and after failing his sobriety tests he was placed under arrest for DWI. He was transported to headquarters for processing and charged with DWI, refusal to submit to breath samples, open container in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to maintain a lane. He was given a court date and released to a friend.
