Wildfire consumes nearly 6 acres in Sterling Forest
Greenwood Lake. The fire had started in New Jersey.

On October 18 at 4:30 p.m., New Jersey State Fire contacted NYSDEC’s regional office in New Paltz to report that a wildfire had crossed over state lines into Sterling Forest State Park. The fire appears to have started in the Jennings Creek area of New Jersey, near E. Shore Rd. It then spread over to the New York side into Sterling Forest. The smoke reduced visibility on E. Shore and Awosting roads in Hewitt.
According to the DEC report, Forest Ranger Daniel Jahn responded to the scene with New York State Park Rangers. By 6:10 p.m., responders contained the fire to 5.9 acres in New York and 0.7 acres in New Jersey.
The DEC currently has the entire Hudson Valley listed as being at high risk of fire.
