On Saturday, October 15, James J. Dunne, 28 , of 17 Zinnia Dr., Glenwood, NJ was arrested by the Vernon Twp. Police Department on an active warrant issued by the West Milford Twp. Police Department. Dunne was charged by Det. Walker of WMPD with one count of aggravated assault. The charge resulted from an incident that occurred on Friday, October 14 at Shenanigans Pub located at 1856 RT.23N in West Milford Twp. On Friday at approximately 1:20 a.m. West Milford Police responded to Shenanigans Pub on a report that an off duty Ringwood Police Officer had been assaulted. Upon arrival, officers were met by Ringwood Officer Paul Kleiber. Kleiber had sustained a laceration to the head and some other minor injuries. According to Kleiber and other witnesses, he was accosted inside the pub by a subject later identified as James J. Dunne. Dunne asked him if he was a Ringwood Police Officer. When Kleiber said that he was, Dunne allegedly punched him in the head, knocking him to the floor. Dunne then fled the pub through a back door. Dunn was arrested at his home without incident by the Vernon Police Department on October 15. He was released after posting $25,000 bail. Aggravated assault is a third degree crime. If convicted, Dunne faces the possibility of 3-5 years in prison and $7500 in fines.
