Memorial Day Observances

    The West Milford Veteran's council will hold the 61st annual Memorial Day Ceremonies, on Mondat, May 30 starting at 10 a.m. West Milford High School Highlanders Band Master of Ceremonies Honorable Glenn R. Wenzel J.S.C. Invocation Rev Dr. Janet Mac Gregor-Williams, West Milford Presbyterian Church Flag Raising By Boy and Girl Scouts "National Anthem" Doris Osterhout Tree dedication ceremony in honor of Lance Cpl Brian P. Parello Guest Speakers Michael Brennan - Boys State and Roland Day - Passaic County American Legion Commander Memorial Rituals V.F.W., American Legion, V.V.A. Tom Clare Roll Call Of War Dead, West Milford Citizens Killed 9/11, Honor Guard, Taps "America the Beautiful" Julie Danckwerth and Christine Toale Rededication of Veterans Monument Mayor Joseph Di Donato Benedication Rev. Father Sigmund Peplowski St. Joseph Church "Proud to Be an American" Jean Clare "God Bless America" Doris Osterhoust Parade Forming immediately after the ceremonies, the parade route will go from Town Hall to Marshall Hill Road, Lincoln Avenue to the American Legion Hall Byram Memorial Service will start at 10 a.m. at the VFW Memorial at the Old School House, 10 Mansfield Dr.; Byram Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the Cranberry Lake Firehouse down to the lake. Children and parents can have free rides on fire trucks back to the firehouse for light refreshments. Franklin Memorial Day Parade. Starts at 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Avenue and ends at Main Street. Memorial were services will be held. Parade sponsored by the American Legion. Jefferson Memorial Day Parade in the Lake Hopatcong part of Jefferson. Services will begin at the American Legion at 11 a.m. and march down to Brady Bridge where there will be a wreath laying ceremony. Open house and light refreshments will be at American Legion following the parade. Hamburg Memorial Day services will start at 9:15 a.m. at North Church Cemetery in Hardyston At 9:45 a.m. there will be a ceremony at the Hamburg monument located at 16 Wallkill Ave., in Hamburg. The events are sponsored by the Franklin Township American Legion and the Hamburg Fire Department. Ogdensburg American Legion parade will take place at 8 a.m.. Services at Heaters Pond will start at 9:15 a.m. Stanhope American Legion VFW Netcong Memorial Day Parade will start at 1 p.m. at the Netcong School, on College Road. Memorial service will take place at Lake Musconetcong and will continue to Stanhope. Ending services will be at the Stanhope American Legion Post on Route 181. Vernon VFW Memorial Day Parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Vernon Dairy Queen and will proceed to Vernon Veterans Field were there will be services at 11 a.m. Additional Services will be at 12 noon at the VFW post. Sussex County The Northwest New Jersey Peace Fellowship will honor the fallen of the Iraq War on Memorial Day Monday, with a ceremony from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sparta United Methodist Church, 71 Sparta Avenue, Sparta. During the remembrance, members and interested participants will read the name, rank and hometown of each American soldier lost in this war. The memorial will include lighting of candles, songs and prayers.
