Two West Milford officers promoted WEST MILFORD The West Milford Police Department recently promoted two of its officers. Thomas Celano was made Sergeant, and Peter Van Gilst, Lieutenant. Mayor Joseph Di Donato officially swore in the Officers October 13. Celano started his career as a patrol officer with the West Milford Police Department in 1996. He had previously served in the US Army as a chief warrant officer and helicopter pilot. Sergeant Celano has now been assigned as a patrol squad supervisor. Van Gilst started with the West Milford Police Department in 1989 and was promoted to sergeant in 2000. He had previously served as an investigator with the Burlington County Prosecutors Office and police officer and detective with the City of Passaic. He will now function as the commander of the investigations unit.
