West Milford PD investigates illegal ATV road riders

The West Milford Police Department is looking for information from the public regarding ATV riders that were seen riding on Cahill Cross Road on May 10. on involving the people captured dint he accompanying photos provided by the police. Recently the town took action to stop illegal off-road riding on township property by using tree cutting to block ATV paths. Mayor Michele Dale at the last town board meeting said that since the activities were taking place on municipal property, it posed a significant possibility of financial liability to the township.
As previously reported, last year there were 134 complaints about illegal ATV activity throughout West Milford. The town has noted that each complaint must be investigated, which drains resources. There were 15 court summonses involving ATVs and dirt bikes issued last year, and recently ATV vehicles were involved in a hit and run episode that resulted in injuries.
ATV use is prohibited in NJ state parks and forests, and on public streets, unless it’s being used as part of a farming operation, according to the state motor vehicle commission.
