The Highlanders boys lacrosse team finished its season with an 18-2 loss to West Morris Central in the first round of the NJSIAA North, Group 2 State Tournament last May 15.
“(We) finished off with a tough loss in states to an impressive West Morris Central team,” said head coach Gary Stoll.
Stoll, however, came away satisfied overall with his team’s season.
“We finished with a 13-6 record, which ties the school record for wins,” Stoll said. “We also won our conference for the first time ever, so overall a great season.”
West Milford clinched the Kirst Division Title for the first time in program history with its win over Passaic Tech on May 7.
The Highlanders were also undefeated in league play throughout the regular season.
In the season-ending loss, the Wolfpack went up 7-2 in the opening period and West Milford was never able to recover.
West Morris would score nine more goals in the second quarter and two more in the second half for the 18-2 win.
Ryan Pomeroy and Casey Fagan scored the Highlanders’ only two goals in the match.
West Morris was the second seed entering the tournament, while West Milford was the 15th.
Fagan and teammate Dylan Connors both earned second team All-Passaic County honors for the season, while Ray Gorny was named first team.
Gorny reached 100 career goals this year and broke the school’s record for points in a season.
Pomeroy and Aidan Bolger both received honorable All-Passaic County mentions as well.
