Dozens of people competed in the 20th annual East Arm Rowing Club "Learn-to-Row" regatta June 3 on Greenwood Lake.
More than 150 spectators lined the shoreline to watch beginner, adult rowers take to the shells and sprint in head-to-head competition on a 500 meter course set up on Greenwood Lake.
There were a total of 76 rowers, who had spent six weeks learning how to row in the slender boats. The Master's Team of the club provided the coaching.
The rowers raced in boats of four people in the womens, mens and mixed boat categories.
Medals were awarded for first, second and third places.
The athletes ranged in ages from 18 to 72 and raced in a total of 11 events.
The club has held the springtime event every year for the last 20 and will again in 2019.
The club also announced their next program will be this coming fall in a corporate challenge called "Day on the Water."
At the Learn-to-Row regatta, the overall winning boat was coached by Jean Zimmer. The boat covered the 500-meter course in just 2:02:5 minutes. The rowers in the boat were Jeff and Valerie Honkerkamp, Joyce Peron and Shannon Harding.
