Filipowicz sets two personal bests
WEST MILFORD. The recent West Milford High School graduate is among the local student athletes who are gaining notice in collegiate sports.
Several local student athletes are gaining notice in collegiate sports this season:
• Sarah Filipowicz, a West Milford High School graduate, is a freshman competitor in swimming and diving for William Paterson University (WPU) in Wayne.
She earned personal best times in both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke in a home victory over John Jay last month.
Through 11 meets, the Pioneers had an overall record of 6-4-1 with two victories at home.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, WPU is scheduled to welcome Bard College for a meet.
• Sean O’Neill of West Milford, a graduate of Saddle River Day High School, is a junior guard for the basketball team at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken.
After 12 games, the Ducks posted an overall record of 10-2 with a mark of 7-1 on their home court.
In the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), the team was 1-0.
On Jan. 20, Stevens is scheduled to host a team from Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham Park campus in a MAC contest.
O’Neill is listed as majoring in mechanical engineering.
• Josiah Basket and Seamus Basket, both graduates of West Milford High School, are on the basketball team of Felician University in Rutherford.
Josiah is a junior guard and Seamus is in a red-shirt year.
Through 14 games, the Golden Falcons had an overall record of 7-7 with a mark of 5-0 on their home court.
In the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), the team was 3-0.
On Jan. 20, it is scheduled to host Holy Family University in a CACC matchup.
Josiah Basket is listed as majoring in communications.
• Ryan Cassels of West Milford, a graduate of Saddle River Day High School, is a sophomore guard for the basketball team at Ramapo College in Mahwah.
Through 13 games, the Roadrunners had an overall record of 11-2 with a mark of 5-0 at home.
In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), the team was 5-1.
On Jan. 20, Ramapo is slated to welcome Stockton University for an NJAC contest.
Cassels is listed as a finance major.
• Owen Kane, who graduated from West Milford High School, is a freshman competitor in swimming and diving for William Paterson University in Wayne.
He was a part of a 200 medley relay team that placed first in a dual meet with Moravian in Bethlehem, Pa.
Through 10 meets, the Pioneers had an overall record of 8-2 with two wins at home.
On Jan. 20, WPU is slated to host Bard College.
Kane is listed as a double major in history and secondary education.
