Lady Highlanders’ field hockey ties Westwood Regional
West Milford. The West Milford High School girls’ field hockey team fought its way to a 1-1 tie at home Oct. 2.
The West Milford High School varsity field hockey team’s home match against Westwood Regional High School on Oct. 2 ended in a 1-1 tie.
While not a win, the tie broke the Lady Highlanders out of a two-match losing streak following losses to both Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley.
Sophomore Sofia Marotta scored West Milford’s only goal in the match, while freshman Meagan Vankirk had the assist.
Goalie Emily Sheridan also had 10 saves in the tie, which came after a Sept. 26 home loss to Wayne Valley in which West Milford was never able to get on the scoreboard.
The final score to that match was 1-0.
Sheridan had 11 saves in last week’s losing effort against Wayne Valley, but it wasn’t enough.
West Milford’s junior varsity field hockey squad was also scheduled to play Westwood Regional High School at home on Oct. 2, with the team looking to continue its strong 2019 season.
After that, it’s onto Butler High School on Oct. 7, when the JV team is scheduled to play the Bulldogs.
