Lady Highlanders’ volleyball wins another county tournament round
West Milford. The WMHS girls’ volleyball team won another round in the county tournament last week.
The West Milford High School volleyball team swept Wayne Hills 2-0 in the first round of the 2019 Passaic County Tournament in Wayne last Thursday.
It was the second win of the tournament for the Lady Highlanders after sweeping Passaic Charter in the preliminary round.
West Milford won the first set of Thursday’s match against Wayne Hills by a score of 25-21, before taking the second set 25-16.
Sophomore Samantha Araujo continued her solid tournament play in the match with seven aces, three kills, and two digs, while senior Erin Swajger led the team with seven digs to go along with her four assists and one kill.
Junior Caitlyn McNally had an ace, two assists, and six digs of her own, while senior Kasey Orlowski had seven assists, five digs, and three kills.
Junior Rory McCormick had a team-leading five kills in the match.
With the win, the 10th seeded Lady Highlanders (4-11) will now move on to the quarterfinal round of the Passaic County Tournament on Friday, in which the team is set to face the second-seeded Passaic Valley.
Wayne Valley entered the tournament as the top seed.
West Milford lost to Passaic Valley 2-0 when they met earlier this season on Sept. 10.
The Lady Highlanders also split its non-tournament games this week, losing to Vernon 2-0 before rebounding with a 2-0 win over Paterson Arts and Science on Tuesday.
Friday’s tournament match will take place at Passaic Valley High School at 4 p.m.
