If you didn’t get a chance to participate in the July nighttime pickleball program at the West Milford Recreation Center, you’ll have another opportunity in August.

The pickleball program that was running on Thursday nights in July from 6-9 p.m., just came to an end last week, but will restart again in August.

Last week’s final night of the July program saw a good turnout, with 15-20 people of various ages in attendance filling up four courts of play.

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis.

The game is played with a paddle and a plastic ball, both of which are provided at the Rec Center.

While pickleball can be played indoors or out, the court is about a third of the size of a tennis court, so there is a much smaller area for players to cover.

The relatively small court and simple rules make the game suitable for people of all ages and abilities, and the Rec Center’s program caters to both beginners and more experienced players.

You can also play pickleball year-round at the Rec Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.

The nighttime pickleball program, however, returned to the West Milford Recreation Center last night and will run on Thursday nights from 6-9 p.m. through Aug. 29.

The program costs $15 and to learn more about it or how to enroll, you can visit the Community Services & Recreation page on the town’s website at www.westmilford.org.
