WEST MILFORD — The West Milford Girls Softball Association (WMGSA) hosted two free series of “Skills and Drills” clinics for coaches and girls in all age level divisions in preparation for the 2015 season.
The first series of clinics featured demonstrations and guidance from former West Milford Xtreme Players that went on to play softball in college: Sara Zambelli - Caldwell College, Steph Romano - Scranton University, Harley Massiello - Ramapo College, Lauren Bogart - William Paterson, and current Ramapo player Jackie Lima. Coaches were given instruction on skills and drills techniques to use with their teams in practices and pre-game warm-ups to help the girls develop proper stances and body mechanics for both fielding and batting. All attending players practiced the skills together in groups, and also received individual instruction and recommendations from the college players.
The second series of clinics reviewed the same techniques in small groups separated by age. Coaches and players from the West Milford High School softball team, and West Milford Girls Softball Association’s Travel Division 14U team worked with the attendees and Recreational League coaches, demonstrating and reviewing the skills and drills techniques they will continue to practice with their teams throughout the season.
The 2015 softball season is well underway, opening on Saturday, April 18.
