Taking their game to the next level
West Milford. Emily Haid, Sean Kelemen, Andrew Finke and Joey Cummings took what they learned from West Milford sports programs to earn key roles on their college teams.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused struggles and tribulations all over the world. That’s why it’s important to recognize those who were able to remain focused and committed to their chosen field of endeavor. Several local young men and women are not only getting the job done in the classroom, but in the realm of athletics as well.
Let’s take a look at local student athletes who competed in collegiate sports this past spring season. This is the second installation:
Emily Haid
Emily Haid (West Milford High School) was a senior midfielder for the Lebanon Valley College (Annville, Pennsylvania) women’s lacrosse team this past season. Haid played in all 13 games and started in one of them for Lebanon Valley. She scored three goals and won three ground balls.
Haid was a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Academic Honor Roll.
Lebanon Valley had an overall record of 6-7, with three wins on their home field. They had four victories in the MAC Commonwealth. They advanced to the MAC Commonwealth quarterfinal round where they were defeated by Stevenson University in a game held in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Haid is listed as an Early Childhood and Education major.
Sean Kelemen
Sean Kelemen (West Milford High School) was on the roster as a senior pitcher for the Ramapo College (Mahwah, New Jersey) baseball team this year. Kelemen appeared in six games and had a 3.60 earned run average on the mound. He also had one save and struck out six batters for Ramapo.
The Roadrunners had an overall record of 13-10 with a mark of 6-5 on their home field. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) they posted a record of 11-7. Ramapo went 1-2 versus The College of New Jersey in the NJAC Tournament held in Mahwah.
Kelemen is listed as a Business Administration major.
Andrew Finke
Andrew Finke (West Milford High School) was a sophomore on the roster of the Wilkes University (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) men’s golf program this year. Finke placed first in matches versus the University of Scranton, Misericordia University and King’s College (twice). He placed 17th at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Men’s Golf Championships hosted by Huntsville Golf Club in Dallas, Pa.
The Colonels finished in seventh place at the MAC Freedom Men’s Golf Championships. They finished 2-2 in dual matches with a 2-1 mark against MAC Freedom opponents.
Finke is listed as an Entrepreneurship major.
Joey Cummings
Joey Cummings (West Milford High School) was on the roster as a sophomore competitor in distance running events for the DeSales University (Center Valley, Pa.) men’s track and field program this spring. Cummings placed second in the steeple chase at the DeSales University Men’s Track and Field Home Invitational.
He earned Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Academic Honor Roll accolades.
The Bulldogs finished in second place in the team scoring at the MAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Widener University in Chester, Pa.
Cummings is listed as a Criminal Justice major.
