West Milford High School freshman Peyton Lowenstein placed fifth in the New Balance Nationals Outdoor 2024 in June in Philadelphia.
She is the first athlete from West Milford to make the podium.
Competing against some of the best freshman girls in the county, she threw the javelin 106 feet 8 inches - her best throw this season.
Her high school season ended at the state group championships. She qualified for the championships by placing fourth in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) North 1, Group 2 tournament.
She continues to compete with the Jr. Highlander Track Club this summer, finishing at the 2024 AAU Jr. Olympics in Greensboro, N.C.
