Up and down week for Highlanders’ soccer
West Milford. The high school soccer teams had a busy week, with the Lady Highlanders logging that team's fourth consecutive victory.
The West Milford High School soccer teams had an up-and-down week, with the girls team continuing its winning streak, and the boys getting another victory in between a couple of losses.
The Lady Highlanders beat Passaic Valley on the road Tuesday after beating Lakeland High School on Sept. 12.
West Milford’s girls’ team had already won its first two matches of the season, making it four in a row now.
In addition to being the Lady Highlanders’ fourth win in a row, the most recent victory over Passaic Valley also marked the third consecutive match in which West Milford held the opponent scoreless.
The final score to Tuesday’s win was 7-0.
Meanwhile, the boys’ soccer team, which stayed home for its match against Passaic Valley on Tuesday, lost the close match by a score of 3-1.
West Milford managed to tie it up at 1-1 in the first half before Passaic Valley came right back to retake the lead, 2-1.
The Hornets would score another goal in the second half, while holding the Highlanders scoreless.
The defeat followed a Sept 14 match over Paterson Eastside in which the Highlanders shut their opponent out en-route to the 5-0 victory.
It marked the second win of the season for the team.
Going into that match, the West Milford boys’ squad was coming off of a home loss to Lakeland.
The team will try to get back on track Thursday, when they’re scheduled to play the Ramsey Rams, while the 5-0 Lady Highlanders looked to stay undefeated on Wednesday in a home match against Ramsey.
