Vernon - The Vernon Vikings Varsity Ice Hockey team skated impressively against league opponent Glen Rock last Saturday on the way to a 10-1 win that preserved their undefeated record. Freshman defensemen Jeff Gallo started off the scoring with assists from Danny Colvin and co-captain Tim Shortman. Co-captain Pat Colvin scored Vernon's second goal of the night with an assist from John Tully. Danny Colvin on a breakaway put Vernon up three with less than four minutes remaining in the first period. Solid defensive play by Harry Coyne, Gallo, Anthony Selimo, Brenton Dearnley and Eric Bravenboer kept Glen Rock scoreless during the period. Goalie Brennan Scott, while not overly busy in net, would go on to face 12 Glen Rock shots allowing just one goal in the second period. The Vikings, meanwhile, continued their scoring siege and Pat Colvin scored Vernon's fourth with an assist from Dearnley. Danny Colvin scored goal number five assisted by linemates Shortman and Coyne. With 7:53 remaining in the second period, Pat Colvin was credited with goal number six assisted by Shortman, who went on to score shorthanded with an assist from Danny Colvin. The third period was no less productive for the Vikings, with Nick Marzorati opening up the scoring with an assist from Danny Colvin. Shortman scored the final two goals assisted by Gallo, and the Colvin brothers. Vernon (5-0) was to travel to Korpi Arena in Bayonne on Monday for non-league action against Bayonne High School. The team is also entered in the Ice House Invitational Holiday Tournament in Hackensack. Play begins at 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 22 against Paramus High School.
