The Highlanders baseball team lost to Lakeland High School on Monday in the quarterfinal round of the Passaic County Tournament in Montville.
Both teams were tied at 1-1 through the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
The game didn’t extend much longer, however, as the Lancers scored three more runs in the top of the eighth.
The fourth-seeded Highlanders were not able to respond and the final score was 4-1.
Andrew Corter, Joe Hubinger, and Zack Milko all went 2-for-4 in the losing effort, while pitcher Mike Wis had 11 strikeouts and allowed three earned runs.
Going into Monday’s game, West Milford was coming off of another loss to Wayne Hills, which snapped the team’s seven-game winning streak.
The team’s were tied at 1-1 when the Patriots knocked in three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Highlanders were able to score another run in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
The final score was 4-2.
Before that loss, West Milford’s last defeat came on April 12 against Passaic Tech.
The Highlanders (9-5) were scheduled to travel to Bergenfield next on Wednesday, where they looked to get back on track against the Bears.
