This week we Take Five with Ashley Mascola, a senior at West Milford who is a tough competitor. She is inspired by her grandma and can’t put down those Harry Potter books. Be sure to check out our bonus five with Ashley on our Web site, www.westmilfordmessenger.com. And come back next week for our next Take Five. 1) How did you get involved with fencing? I got involved with fencing after my brothers decided to take a fencing class. I thought it was cool so I signed up for the next class and have been fencing ever since. 2) Who is your biggest inspiration? My biggest inspiration is my grandma. She raised three wonderful kids, has been a widow for 20 years, survived both breast cancer and skin cancer, and is healthy. She is an absolutely amazing woman and I love her with all my heart. 3) Who is your favorite teacher of all time? My favorite teacher of all time would have to be my first grade teacher from Westbrook, Ms. Donegan. She is the sweetest person I’ve ever met and cares so much about her job and her students. 4) What is your favorite book and why? I don’t have a favorite book but I have a favorite series and it is the Harry Potter Series. I love magic, science fiction, and fictional creatures so those books interested and captivated me within the first 100 pages of book one. 5) Share something no one knows about you. I have been a ballerina for 13 years of my life and I have loved every year of it. Dancing keeps people happy, Ashley. Glad you have loved it all these years. And best wishes to you in the future. Do you know someone who should be featured here in Take Five? Let us know which kids are doing good things in their lives: on the sports field, volunteering, in the classroom, playing music and out in the community. Drop us a note at njoffice@strausnews.com and tell us who you would like to see here next.
