Take Five with VICTORIA DOWLING

| 15 Feb 2012 | 10:39

This week we Take Five with Victoria Dowling, a member of the remarkable 2011 West Milford Field Hockey team. Victoria is a credit to the Highlanders, both on and off the field, and she recognizes the important people in her life. Be sure to go to www.westmilfordmessenger.com to read our bonus five with Victoria. 1) How did you get involved with field hockey? I got involved with field hockey in eighth grade. My good friend, Gianna Galioto, was involved with the sport and I thought that I should give it a try during Coach Provost’s spring clinic. I instantly fell in love with the sport. 2) Who is your biggest inspiration? My mom is my biggest inspiration. She is very strong and independent. No matter what, she has always been by my side cheering me on and helping me get back on my feet when I’ve fallen down. 3) What would most people be surprised to know about field hockey? Some people would find it surprising that the average field hockey player runs 6 to 9 miles every game. 4) Share a favorite moment with your team. A favorite moment that I shared with my teammates was when the West Milford Field Hockey Team won counties in October. It was a really proud moment to say that I’m a part of the field hockey family. The West Milford Field Hockey team has not won counties since 1995. 5) Who is your favorite teacher of all time and why? My favorite teacher would have to be my art teacher, Mrs. Cosgrove. She has taught me so much in the past year that I could use for years to come. She has taught me about both art and life in general. Bonus Five 6) What is your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie would have to be Soul Surfer. Bethany overcame losing her arm and didn’t give up when life gave her reasons to. That movie is a huge inspiration to me. 7) Name three things you would bring with you if you were on a deserted island. I would bring my iPod, my sketchbook and my Prismacolor colored pencil set. 8) What does being a Highlander mean to you? Being a Highlander means a lot to me. It means that you are part of something special, almost like an extended little family. You share moments with your teammates and your friends that are so memorable and unforgettable. 9) What do you do with your time when you are not playing field hockey? I draw or paint. It is always great to have an escape sometimes and get lost in doing something that I love. 10) Share something no one knows about you. I have some of the best friends anybody could ask for. Here's hoping your senior year on the field hockey team is just as memorable as this year was. Keep up the good work and kudos for giving a shout out to your mom! You are an inspiration too.
