    Aug. 3 A 22-year-old woman traveling south on Macopin Road struck a rock wall at the intersection of Macopin/Mountain Spring Road. The vehicle also struck the Mountain Spring Road sign, as well as a telephone pole just south of Mountain Spring Road. The driver was transported to Chilton Hospital for her injuries. A 21-year-old Clifton woman received a summons for careless driving after police noticed her car on the grass median between Macopin Road and Union Valley Road with 30 feet of skid mark leading up to it. The driver said she applied the brake and was unable to stay on the roadway impacting the West Milford sign in the intersection. Aug. 5 Two men were taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital for their injuries sustained when one of them lost control of his car on the wet roadway on Warwick Turnpike and went into the oncoming lane of traffic, hitting the other. Aug. 6 A 40-year-old Wantage woman was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained when her car hit a grass median on Route 23 and flipped over three times. The driver told police her steering wheel started to shake and she lost control of the vehicle. She was driving on the southbound side and ended up on the northbound side of the highway. Aug. 7 A 32-year-old West Milford man ended up in Chilton Memorial Hospital after a car cut in front of his vehicle on Lakeshore Drive in the area of Vineland Road. He said he swerved around the vehicle, striking a speed limit sign and then a utility pole. Upper Greenwood Lake First Aid Squad #56 responded and transported the man to Chilton Hospital. Patricia Cangelosi, 70, of West Milford, was charged with shoplifting after a store detective from the West Milford ShopRite observed her removing $38.20 worth of merchandise from the store without paying for it. Police observed a 29-year-old West Milford man driving on Lakeshore Drive using a hand held cell phone. During the motor vehicle stop police discovered that the man, Daryl VanDunk, had an arrest warrant issued out of Wanaque for $750. He was made aware of the warrant for failure to appear and was transported to headquarters for processing. He was also issued a summons for use of a cell phone while driving. Bail was accepted on the Wanaque warrant. Aug. 8 A 19-year-old West Milford woman suffered minor injuries after hitting a deer that had run out onto Macopin Road in front of the motorcycle she was driving. The woman stated that the deer suddenly jumped out in front of her at which time she attempted to swerve her motorcycle but was unable to avoid hitting the deer, causing her to put the motorcycle down on the ground. She was transported to Chilton Hospital Aug. 10 Stephen Sibilia, 34, of Fairfield, was arrested on Old Route 23 for driving while intoxicated. This happened after a 17-year-old West Milford man was hit from behind waiting to turn left from Macopin Road onto Highlander Drive. The driver of that car, Sibilia, drove around the car he had just hit and fled south on Macopin Road. A description of the vehicle and the registration were put over the air. Sibilia was observed making a left onto Route 23 south and he was stopped on Old Route 23. Sibilia stated that he was driving on Macopin Road and was texting a friend with his cell phone when he ran into the car on Macopin. In addition to being arrested at the scene for DWI, he was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident. Aug. 12 A 39-year-old West Milford man was issued a summons for unsafe lane change after he lost control of his car on Route 23 north. The driver said he fishtailed and may have struck the guide rail, which caused his vehicle to roll over on the driver’s side. The vehicle left the roadway to the right, jumped the curb and was up-righted after striking an embankment. The West Milford First Aid Squad transported the man to Chilton Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Aug. 16 Shannon Murray, 20, of Montville was issued a summons for underage driving while intoxicated, open container and failure to maintain a lane when police observed her parked on the side of the roadway talking on the phone. The officer asked if she needed assistance and Murray said she did not. After the driver pulled back out onto Oak Ridge Road, the officer noticed that the car was being driven in an erratic manner. Aug. 19 An 80-year-old Hewitt man, driving north on Warwick Turnpike, was hit by a marked State Park Police car whose emergency lights were activated. The officer had passed a vehicle that yielded and she believed this other car was yielding as well when she attempted to pass to the left. The Hewitt man already had his left turn signal on and proceeded to turn onto Sycamore Lane. The impact caused heavy damage to the police car and moderate damage to the other vehicle, which jumped a Belgian block curb and struck a street sign post. Both drivers were evaluated at the scene by the Upper Greenwood Lake First Aid Squad and refused medical attention. Aug. 21 Jason Halvorgen, 22, of West Milford, was issued a summons for driving while intoxicated, failure to wear a seat belt and speeding after police observed him traveling on Union valley Road at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was found to be DWI. William G. Thompson, Jr., 31, of West Milford, was arrested for theft after an incident at the Country Roads Deli on Union Valley Road. Officers responded to Country Roads Deli on the report of a dispute. The officers were advised that a customer had left his wallet at the deli and when he went back to retrieve it, it could not be found and an argument ensued. Officers viewed the video surveillance tape and observed a male taking the wallet. Officers recognized the man as Thompson, Jr. Officers responded to the suspect’s residence and recovered the wallet. Aug. 22 A 56-year old Paterson woman lost control of her car while negotiating a curve on Route 23 in the area of Germantown Road, causing her vehicle to go sideways. The car struck a large tree after going off the roadway down an embankment. West Milford First Aid Squad #47 transported the driver to Morristown Hospital while West Milford First Aid Squad #49 transported the two children, ages 8 and 9, to Morristown Hospital. Aug. 25 Police pulled over Glenn Tiger, 28, of Vernon on Route 23 for a driving with one headlight out. The officer noticed that his inspection sticker was expired. He also realized that Tiger’s driving privileges were suspended and he had active warrants out of both Newton and Ridgewood for contempt of court on traffic summonses. Tiger was placed under arrest for the two active warrants and was transported to headquarters where the warrants were served and processed. Tiger paid the full bail amount for both warrants. He was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, for maintenance of lamps and for an expired inspection sticker. Aug. 27 A 41-year-old Freehold man driving a motorcycle on Hamburg Turnpike was injured when he hit gravel on the roadway, causing his tire to slide out from under him. The driver was transported to Chilton Memorial Hospital with injuries. A 23-year-old Hewitt man was issued a summons for unlicensed driver when he lost control of his vehicle on Longhouse Drive. The man said a deer came onto the road, causing him to lose control and to go off the right side of the road and overturn. Robert Wosyluk, 52, of West Milford was charged with driving while intoxicated after police observed him driving a pickup truck in an erratic manner on Union Valley Road. Aug. 30 Coreen Clark, 39, of Rutherford, was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to breath tests after dispatch informed police of a possible intoxicated driver on Route 23, Oak Ridge Road. Clark then passed an officer who initiated a traffic stop. She has a court date of Sept. 10.
