To the editor: Having raised two children in West Milford, we know the importance of the volunteer recreation programs and the positive influence they have had on our children’s lives. In fact, one of the strengths of our community is the different youth programs. Whether soccer or softball, or anything in between, our town’s recreation programs are strong, all inclusive and serve hundreds of our children every year. We also know of the years of problems in obtaining and maintaining fields. Unfortunately, the recreation department has been promised muchbut given very littleand our children suffer. When we voted “Yes” for the open space fund years ago, we assumed that some of the money would be used to help develop fields. After all, aren’t fields open space? With over $600,000 of unused dollars in our fund and money being added every year, all that the recreation groups want to do is share in NEW monies, not touch any of the current funds. This is simple. Instead of being selfish and one-dimensional in our view of what open space islet’s share. Please vote “Yes” on Question 1 on November 8. Joyce and Pat Restaino Newfoundland
